In what must be considered a huge step for citizen rights, Finland has made fast internet access a right for all citizens. I did not realize how far this had gone and was unaware that the United Nations was working towards the end goal of making it a human right. It all seems a bit strange that in once country all citizens have the right to high speed internet and in many other countries people struggle for survival and the basic necessities of life such as food and water.
It just shows the disparity in wealth distribution when you see that in Finland you are guaranteed internet and in Africa you are guaranteed nothing. I know in Jamaica there are many children who have heard of the internet but they cannot understand what it does. These same children have missed semesters of school because they had no shoes or uniforms to wear. The lived on the land and barely were fed. How is it that Finland can do so much for its people and most others cannot?
